“Forever Loved, Never Forgotten”

The Navy Gold Star Program is eternally grateful for the sacrifice of those Service Members who have died in service to our country. To help us to never forget, we have set up this tribute page to honor and remember the memory of those lives. If you would like to honor the memory of your Sailor, Soldier, Marine, Airman or Coast Guardsman through the Navy Gold Star website please submit your thoughts and a photo.

Edwards, Michael.jpg
This letter is in remembrance and honoring Lt. Commander Michael D. Edwards born October 13, 1970 who passed away in November of 2011. I’m thankful for this courageous husband and father, who spent most of his life serving our country. He has left behind to great young men Michael Jr. 23, who has now graduated college and is a computer programmer and Jordan 19 who is attending Sacramental State as a Business Major. They have surely stepped into their fathers shoes, with education in mind. We now stand and honor him since his loss by opening a Non Profit in 2012 named after his son’s MNJ Foundation. This nonprofit serves the Modesto California community by helping veterans, homeless, incarcerated and the less fortunate trying to get back to life in general. By providing job training skills, business skills and community resources to support the underserved residents. He inspired me with his giving heart to help others and always joking spirit when someone needed uplifting. Lt. Commander Michael D Edwards will always be honored as long his family is blessed to keep his legacy going.

Testimonials

I lost my husband 10 years ago as of August 2018. I was pregnant with my son who never had an opportunity to meet his Father. I was contacted by my Navy Gold Star Coordinator around August on 2018. I was contacted prior to last year, but I emotionally wasn't ready. The Gold Star coordinator called, she emailed and she was adamant about me signing up for the Snowball Express. I can't express how thankful I am for my Gold Star Coordinator because Snowball changed our lives. Not only were we able to get connected to many programs that has helped us, but we are connected with families who share the same common experiences of losing a lost one who made a sacrifice to serve our country for our freedom, these familes are also right here in Hampton Roads and this has allowed my son to connect with other boys and girls who are just like him. A million thanks are not enough, but I am forever grateful for programs like Gold Star.
